In 2025, Current AI will launch three pilot programmes to test approaches to Public interest AI. Each one is shaped by what we’ve heard from partners and peers — calls for more accessible data, stronger feedback loops, and more openness. These pilots are designed to generate practical evidence, surface challenges, and test and learn with the AI ecosystem.
We’re helping AI reach more countries and communities
AI should work for everyone, in every language. But today, many languages remain underrepresented in the data and tools that power AI — limiting the reach, reliability and relevance of these technologies.
Our Linguistic Diversity Initiative will help close that gap by expanding AI’s language capabilities through the development of datasets, models, and applications for underrepresented languages. The goal is to make AI more inclusive, more useful, and more reflective of the world it serves.
We’re laying the groundwork to keep AI accountable
Accountability shouldn’t be optional. Yet shared standards and scalable infrastructure are still lacking, making meaningful oversight more difficult.
Our Open Auditing and Accountability Initiative is changing that. By bringing together diverse voices across sectors and regions, we’re working to develop practical tools, global standards, and governance models that enable fair, transparent, and trustworthy AI.
We’re making sure AI can make all of us healthier – no exceptions
AI has the potential to transform healthcare. Unlocking that potential means focusing on the foundations — validating data, strengthening health systems, and meaningfully involving communities from the start.
Our Health and Human Welfare Initiative will support real-world evaluations to understand how AI is affecting people and communities in practice. It will also invest in the technical and community infrastructure needed to ensure that AI is beneficial for every patient, everywhere.
Testing what works
We’re looking forward to announcing our first grantees for each programme soon, and with them, a series of live projects designed to generate learning, build momentum, and advance public interest AI globally.
