At the AI Action Summit in Paris, we saw a clear signal that the world is ready for a different future for AI, one that is open, inclusive, and aligned with democratic values. Thanks to the global momentum and leadership of the summit, Current AI secured an over $400 million initial investment, highlighting the scale of ambition behind efforts to build AI in the public interest.

We’re now entering the next critical stage: laying the foundations for a robust and effective organisation. Over the next 6 months, our focus will be on building out governance and shaping strategy. This “start-up phase” is also about getting the operational basics right - legally, logistically.
Today, we are proud to announce the formation of the Current AI Interim Committee, the group of core partners of the Initiative who will guide our governance, partnerships, and growth through this critical “start-up phase”.

As we move forward, this moment is about building the systems that will ensure AI works in service of the public interest. We know this won’t be achieved by any one organisation. It will take coordinated action, long-term investment, and collaboration across sectors and borders.

- Data: unlocking access to valuable datasets in media, health, and education to empower local solutions and innovation
- Accountability: ensuring transparency and trust through public-interest auditing and oversight
